My three sons are all in the martial arts program at outer Banks martial arts. They are all under 10 years old and absolutely love the program. Every single coach in the gym is amazing. There is not one student that feels left out in a class. Coach Rick provides enough coaches even in larger classes to allow each individual the attention they need. It feels like a big family and a true team. We feel very fortunate to have Coach Rick and his team here on the outer banks. They are a true asset to our community.

I had the pleasure of taking a BJJ private with Rick while in the outter banks on vacation . He was very knowledgeable and super easy to work with. He took the time to address every question I had during the workout and I would highly recommends obx martial arts if you are ever in the area. I look forward to training here again next summer.

Round II at OBX Martial Arts for the week. Great instruction and inspiration from Coach Rick. Very welcoming and cool crew. Rick shows the great and practical technique and then shows the self-defense/street application of the same technique. Not every school does this as it really helps you understand BJJ.

Rickey is a great instructor who is insanely passionate about Jiu-Jitsu. Do yourself a favor and drop in during Marathon Monday if you're on vacation. You won't regret it.

Great school! I'm from Gracie Allegiance PA and I was on vacation in Kitty Hawk NC for a week and did some cross training at OBX Martial Arts and everyone was great! The students are very respectful and cool people in general. Rick is a very knowledgeable instructor and his classes are super fun. He even rolled with me which is not something a lot of instructors will do with visitors and he took his time to help me with the guard pass we were drilling and to give me feedback when we were rolling even though i wasn't one of his regular students. So if you're local and you wanna start Jiu-jitsu...this is definitely a place where instructor will invest in you rather you're a hobbist or competitor. I got to see some of the kids classes too while waiting and it was fantastic! Highly recommend this place!

Popped in for an evening at the Buxton location. Welcoming crew with a good learning atmosphere and great teaching. I really like how the coach watched the rolls going on and took certain scenarios back to the whole class as teaching moments. If you're thinking about starting bjj, would highly recommend. I Was out in the outer banks for a week on vacation. Was recommended to check this gym out while in the area. Very professional training environment with knowledgeable instructors. Learned some good techniques while there for the week. Mr. Bateman the owner was very welcoming to having tourist in his gym. Highly recommend checking it out if in the area.

Coach Rick and his crew that teach jiu-jitsu are unbelievably great with kids. I actually enjoy sitting and watching them work with the little people. They are firm in their instruction but have loads of patience and always show the kids a fun time. If you stop in to watch them just pay attention and look at the kids' huge smiles. Also, the prices for instruction are beyond fair and the manner in which they teach is great for the super young along with the bigger people that are looking to get their "WORK" in.
